Getting to Athens

Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ (ATH) is the largest and busiest airport in Greece, serving as the main gateway to Athens and the country’s islands. Located about 30 kilometres east of Athens, it connects Greece to major cities across Europe, the Middle East, North America, and beyond. More than 60 airlines operate at ATH, with 350-400 international flights operating daily.

By Taxis (recommended)

The official taxi rank of El. Venizelos is located just outside the Arrivals level. Simply take Exit 3 and you will find the Athens airport taxis queuing up in front of you.

All licensed taxis in Athens are yellow, have a ‘TAXI’ sign and are equipped with metres. The fare is charged per kilometre and per hour. Make sure the metre is switched on as soon as you set off. The fare should be approximately between 40€ – 55€. Some taxis are cash only so please check this with the driver before setting off. The journey should take about 30-40 minutes, depending on the traffic.

By Metro

The Blue Subway Line 3 departs daily from the airport metro station with frequent, every 36-minute routes. Moreover, the subway offers fast rides, reaching the city centre in just 40-minutes.

A one-way ticket costs approximately 9€. Victoria metro station is located 400 meters from the conference hotel.

Suburban Train

The Suburban Athens Train, Proastiakos, also leaves the airport rail station and connects El. Venizelos to the major, central parts of the city. Proastiakos is an aboveground train that traverses the distance to the city centre in approximately 44-minutes, charging 9€.

By Bus (+ taxi advised)

OASA public buses transfer passengers from Athens Airport to Athens city, on a 24-hour basis. OASA local bus stop is located outside the Arrivals level of Athens Airport, between Exits 4 and 5. Tickets can be bought via the ticket desks here. Alternatively, contactless payments are also accepted on buses. Tickets cost approximately 5.50€ for a one-way trip

Moreover, you can purchase the 3-day Tourist Ticket, at approx. 20€, which is valid for buses, metro, and tram and includes a return ticket to Athens Airport.

  • Bus X93 (Athens Airport – Kifissos KTEL): This is the bus route connecting Athens Airport to the Intercity Bus Station. The route lasts approximately 65-minutes and buses depart from the airport every 40-minutes. To get to the conference hotel, you would need to get off at stop ‘KOLOKINTHUS’ which is an 8-minute taxi or 25-minute walk from the Radisson Blu Park Hotel.
  • Bus X95 (Athens Airport – Syntagma Square): Syntagma Square is the most central area of the city. Taking Bus X95 will get you there in about 60-minutes. To get to the conference hotel, you would need to get off at stop ‘SYNTAGMA SQUARE’ which is a 7-minute taxi or 30-minute walk from the Radisson Blu Park Hotel.

Getting Around the City

Athens is a vibrant city that blends ancient history with modern life. While some key attractions are within walking distance, the city is large and spread out, making taxis and public transport a convenient option for getting around.

Public Transport

Athens has a well-developed public transport system operated by OSE and OASA, which includes metro, buses, trams, trolleybuses, and suburban railway services. The Athens Metro is one of the fastest ways to navigate the city, with three lines connecting major neighbourhoods, the port of Piraeus, and Athens International Airport (ATH). Victoria metro station is located 400 meters from the conference hotel.

You can purchase single tickets, day passes, or multi-day travel cards for unlimited use across different transport modes. Tickets can be bought at metro stations, kiosks, and via the TfA (Transport for Athens) mobile app.

  • Metro: Fast and reliable, running from early morning until midnight (extended to 2:00 AM on weekends).
  • Buses & Trolleybuses: Cover most areas but can be slow due to traffic.
  • Trams: A scenic way to reach the coastal areas of Athens.

Taxi Services

Taxis in Athens are readily available and can be requested at the conference hotel reception, hailed on the street, booked via apps, or found at taxi stands. Official taxis are yellow with a taxi sign on the roof, and fares are metered.
