INNOVATIONS FOR THE FUTURE — NEW
MATERIALS FOR NEW CHALLENGES
The ‘S’® Plus+ Family, developed by Murtfeldt, is
a new group of materials designed for specific applications and
for the very highest demands. Made from high-quality UHMW polyethylenes,
they all offer individually different properties.
The ‘S’® Plus+ Family keeps growing. Consumers’
demands help the company’s specialists continue to develop
additional members to this family.
Another family member is ‘S’® Plus+ OIL, which
has a minimum coefficient of sliding friction. The oil contained
in the material virtually precludes the development of stick slip
and thus of noise, e.g., squeaking. Despite its oil filling, ‘S’®
Plus+ OIL can be used in direct contact with food.
Combinations
of food and lubricants tend to be either unappetizing or very expensive.
Even lubricants licensed for direct contact with food can form an
extremely unhygienic environment by attracting adhering substances
in powder form. By contrast, in Murtfeldt’s ‘S’®
Plus+ OIL, the lubricant is embedded, so no dust particles can adhere
to the surface. Nevertheless, the positive effect of this oil filling
— an improved friction coefficient — is significant.
All these properties combined make ‘S’® Plus+ OIL
an all-around material for use not only in the food industry, but
in other places as well, like slide profiles for modular link belts,
table top chains, chain guides, bearing bushes, valve boxes, etc.
It can also be used in applications where lubricants are harmful
to the environment, as in forestry and agriculture.

TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
The ability to order foam PVC in an infinite choice of colours and
finishes, even on small runs, is increasing the creative possibilities
for signage and display.
Brett
Martin, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of plastic
substrates, has introduced Foamalux Infinity, a high density white
foam PVC with a coloured surface finish, which is applied in the
production process. The technology involved means any Pantone®
reference can be precisely reproduced on orders as small as 500
meters squared, while a range of special effects such as woodgrain
and metallic finishes are available on minimum orders of only 1500
meters squared.
Available in 3 mm and 5 mm thicknesses, Foamalux Infinity’s
high density gives a harder surface than standard foam PVC, providing
improved resistance to denting and good graphic reproduction. Foamalux
Infinity can be processed in the same ways as standard foam PVC-vinyl
application, screen and digital printing, cutting and routering.

| NEW EUROMAP
RECOMMENDATION FOR EXTRUSION
A working group of the EUROMAP Technical Commission has prepared
a further recommendation (EUROMAP 31) on melt temperature measurement.
In this document, a method to measure a representative mean value
of the melt temperature in a flow channel with a circular cross
section is defined. It allows the comparison of measuring data from
different sources.
The new EUROMAP recommendation 31, “Extrusion — Melt
Temperature Measurement” is now available on EUROMAP’s
website at www.euromap.org.

EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT IS KEY TO SALES
SUCCESS
By Roy Chitwood
We’ve all heard the adage: Time is money.
Indeed, if you treat your time as the valuable commodity it is,
you are more likely to spend it conservatively and only on the things
that hold the most value for you. Therefore, adopting and implementing
an effective time management procedure should top any serious business
person’s agenda.
The reward for managing your time and consistently working toward
your goals is the enrichment of not only your professional life,
but your personal life. Focus on your highest priorities and consistently
place them first in your life. The added benefit of a well-organized
work schedule is the creation of time for family, friends and the
leisure activities that rejuvenate and refresh you. This is the
personal side of selling — finding time to relax and recharge.
Salespeople often find it difficult to justify taking time off,
knowing how much work must be done and how limited the time is to
accomplish it. They can feel guilty being away from the job and
as a result, personal interests, family and friends often take a
back seat to business priorities. The creation of more leisure time,
then, hinges on your ability to complete your assignments efficiently
on or ahead of deadlines. If personal activities are sacrificed
to business pursuits for too long, the result will be burnout, fatigue
and the loss of quality in personal relationships.

MEDICAL POLYMERS 2006
6 to 7 June 2006, Cologne, Germany

tubing and catheters, to joint replacements, implants, cardiac stents
and other intravascular devices, needle guards, tissue scaffolding,
suture materials and wound adhesives.
Rapra Technology Limited is pleased to announce the Fifth International
