GEVACRIL® ACRYLICS: NEW HIGH QUALITY PROFILES
GEVACRIL ACRYLICS has reported fantastic feedback from Euroshop 2008, the Global Retail Trade Fair in Düsseldorgevacrilf, Germany, which took place in February 2008.

This year's EUROSHOP attracted enormous interest. Not only amongst the exhibitors — with 1.800 firms, more exhibitors registered than ever before — but also amongst more than 100.000 visitors. It provided the best conditions for GEVACRIL® ACRYLICS to present brand new items like the PMMA high impact profiles.

The company offers a wide range of standard GEVACRIL® high-impact PMMA profiles, as well as the possibility of manufacturing special profiles (in PMMA, high-impact PMMA, PC, ABS). The acrylic profiles round up GEVACRIL®’s unsurpassed delivery programme with more than 1.100 articles produced and ready from stock.

Using state-of-the art technology GEVACRIL® ACRYLICS offers its customers total care in the development and production of plastic profile sections. The main objective of GEVACRIL® is to create high quality items and value for customers in the following applications: lighting and illuminated advertising, shop fittings and housings, visual communication and furniture, etc.

CERAMICS OR PLASTICS? COMPOSITE MATERIAL CLOSES GAP
wefapressThe advantages of drainage elements made from ceramics are obvious. They have been established for many years in high speed paper lines, such as for tissue paper. Only the very
high cost, the elaborate handling and the risk of breakage represent disadvantages of “pure” ceramic solutions.

The development of plastics used in paper machines did not reflect the dynamic development in the paper industry for quite some time, with increased output and line speeds of newer generation paper machines. UHMW-PE (ultra high-molecular weight polyethylene), the most well known plastic material used for forming and drainage elements, was developed in the 1950s and has inherent properties, such as high wear resistance and very good sliding properties. However, the material has not been adapted to increased requirements and has only slightly changed over the past decades.

In the last 10 years, leading converters of UHMW-PE have assumed the role of further development and introduced a variety of modified materials for different industries and applications, incrementally improving the performance of the base material. Worth mentioning is a fundamental development of a new material combing properties of UHMW-PE and “real” ceramics. This development took place in very close cooperation with paper mills and was supported strongly by results in the field.

Now, Wefapress Beck & Co. GmbH’s CeramX® is available and excels in the following properties:

  • significantly improved wear resistance and hardness over standard UHMW-PE or other modified grades
  • improved sliding properties and surface finishes (to be achieved by machining and polishing) over conventionally used UHMW-PE types
  • no danger of breakage allowing for easy handling and assembly
  • increase of wire life time compared to ceramics and UHMW-PEs
  • very flexible design by machining: customer specific solutions in forming and drainage area.

BENCORE INTRODUCES HEXABEN
bencoreBencore Srl has introduced a new product in its gamma of composite panels: Hexaben panel, which was previewed during Euroshop 2008, the world’s largest and most important trade fair for the retail industry.

Hexaben is achieved by gluing two external layers of PMMA, PC or PETG to an aluminium honeycomb core. In this ultra-light panel, the highly technological honeycomb core, designed for aerospace applications, gives a great aesthetical effect to design and architectural projects.

Hexaben is produced in standard thickness 19/21 mm and the core cell can be supplied in two diameters: 1″ and ½″. The external layers are the same as the Starlight and Lightben families so the material is available in a wide variety of colours and in glossy and satin finishing.

QUINN PLASTICS INTRODUCES QUINN ABS-ST
Quinn Plastics is delighted to announce the recent addition of QUINN ABS-ST to the company’s already extensive product range.

quinnQUINN ABS-ST is the only choice when you require a product that combines strength, rigidity and toughness. It is ideal for turning, drilling, milling, sawing, die-cutting and shearing and therefore the perfect choice for light, rigid, moulded products such as suitcases, containers, signage and car body parts.

QUINN ABS-ST is a stronger material than high impact polystyrene, with the styrene giving the plastic an impervious surface and the butadiene providing resilience even at low temperatures.

Available with added improvement against UV, QUINN ABS-ST also comes in a palette of standard colours, with silver or metallic options available on request.

Not only is QUINN ABS-ST a highly resistant and tough material but it can also be recycled, which is good news when it comes to protecting the environment!

NEWS from the Industry

NEW GLOBAL ANTIOXIDANT MARKET STUDY
They may only be required in small amounts at any one time, but nevertheless they are absolutely necessary. Without antioxidants, many products would not last very long, and many plastics could not even be manufactured without their protective attributes. Antioxidants also have the ability to slow the deterioration of rubber and adhesives. Acting as stabilizers, they are also useful in facilitating the production of fuel and lubricants. In lipstick and other fat based cosmetics, they can also be used to prevent rancidness.

The market research company, Ceresana, has devoted its latest study to the industrial application of antioxidants. It presents more than 500 pages of quintessential information about the market, which reached a worldwide volume of 0.88 million tons and a value of 32.4 billion Euros in 2007. With an annual growth rate of 3.9 percent, the volume of antioxidants is expected to reach 1.25 million tons in 2016.

The comprehensive market report discusses more than 25 areas of application and their respective amounts of demand, divided by global regions. It not only examines 90 types of antioxidants and their detailed technical attributes, but also company profiles of the 68 most important manufacturers. The market study is now available in English or German exclusively from Ceresana Research. Go to www.ceresana.com/en for more information.
