WEFAPRESS® CONTINUES TO INVEST IN PRODUCTION OF PRESSED SHEET
Wefapress’ new press, with a format of 6200 x 2500 mm, will primarily produce UHMW-PE sheet in a range of 8 to 200 mm thicknesses. Start-up of this new line (“Press 14”) will be the first quarter of 2008.

The continuous strong demand of engineering plastics (UHMW-PE in particular), as well as the excellent prospects for compression moulded polymers (superior properties, better dimensional stability) triggered the investment decision.

With the 6200 x 2500 press format, Wefapresstakes into consideration the growing demand of polyethylene sheet in 3050 x 1250 mm. In addition, these dimensions allow for large machined parts with diameter up to 2500 mm. The press is designed to produce UHMW-PE in thin (8 mm) as well as thick (200 mm) sheet with a homogenous property profile (UHMW-PE compliant with TG1 und TG2, DIN 16972 / EN ISO 15527).

“We use Perspex because it is just so easy to work with. The material is easy to fabricate and we get great technical support and service. It’s easy to get samples and sheet when you need it, and most of all the quality is consistent and the colours are bang on trend,” Dawn Hawkins said.

QUINN PLASTICS INTRODUCES QUINN CAST BEAUTÉ AND ANTI-BACTERIAL PRODUCT TO CASTRANGE
Quinn Plastics has introduced two new products to its well-known CAST range. Quinn CAST Beauté is designed to better withstand chemicals than standard PMMA cast material, while Quinn CAST Anti-Bac has special additives to ensure it is resistant to bacteria. Both products were launched at the K Show in Düsseldorf at the end of October.

Quinn Plastics has introduced two new products to its well-known CAST range. Quinn CAST Beauté has a special formulation that makes it more resistant to chemical attack, while also ensuring that it is as easy to thermoform as standard PMMA material. Quinn CAST Beauté also maintains its resistance even under conditions causing stress to the sheets such as when they have been laser cut or drilled.

According to Judith Sanz, Quinn Plastics manager, Barcelona, Quinn CAST Beauté’s unique formulation makes it the perfect material for use in cosmetic display units, as well as in screen printing (when under stress).

Quinn CAST Beauté can be produced upon request in any colour reference from transparent to opaque and with smooth or matt surfaces including the possibilities of final product design. Produced at Quinn Plastics’ Barcelona plant, Quinn CAST Beauté is available Europe-wide.

Quinn CAST Anti-Bac is endowed with anti-microbial and fungicide protection, which makes it ideal for use in places where extreme hygienic conditions are required, such as medical and laboratory facilities, as well as in gyms, spas, hotels, sanitary applications and public rest rooms.

Quinn CAST Anti-Bac’s special additive, which blocks the development of micro-organisms, means that the material can increase the level of hygiene in specific areas, eliminate the development of odours and dark stains on material, and stand up to prolonged washing.

The additive is also colourless, which means it can be used in all colour references as well as in clear material without modifying the final aspect of the sheet. In addition, Quinn CAST Anti-Bac has better chemical resistance and is easier to thermoform than standard Quinn CAST material.

NEWS from the Industry

PLASTICS RECYCLING BOOK AVAILABLE
Over the past 20 years, recycling of plastics has increased dramatically. This is important not only from the environmental point of view (less landfill space is needed), but also from the economic point of view because recycling allows energy and materials to be reused.

The Handbook of Plastics Recycling discusses some of the state-of-the-art techniques of recycling post-consumer plastic materials and focuses on mechanical recycling, chemical recycling and energy recovery.

This book is intended for all those who are interested in recycling of post consumer plastic waste. Although, this book discusses technical aspects of recycling, the authors have endeavoured to make this book easily understandable to anyone interested in the subject. This book enables the reader to gain a thorough grounding in all the subjects discussed and each chapter has a bibliography to allow follow up on subjects of interest.
