Georg Fischer Clean Water Foundation bringing fresh water to 200,000 people worldwide

Georg Fischer reaffirmed its strong commitment to its Clean Water Foundation the occasion of the World Water Day, 22 March 2012. Since its creation in 2002, the Clean Water Foundation of Georg Fischer has financed almost 100 water supply projects bringing access to clean drinking water to 200,000 people in 50 countries.

“We at Georg Fischer will continue to support the Clean Water Foundation because the issue of water availability touches us all and because, as specialists in this sector, we are in a position to offer a meaningful contribution,” says Yves Serra, CEO of Georg Fischer. Read more.

 

 


European processors feeling cost pressure

European plastics processors are still coming under increasing pressure, with raw material prices increasing 20 percent since December, according to the European Plastics Converters (EuPC) trade association.

“There has been a sharp upswing in prices across the board for most polymers, commodity and engineering, and this is both seriously compromising processors with their customers as well as threatening profitability,” managing director Alexandre Dangis said in a statement. Read more.


Nylacast employees grow facial hair for charity

March is National Prostate Cancer awareness month and 19 members of the Nylacast team have been growing facial hair to raise funds for local Leicestershire, UK, charity Prostaid to help in the fight against prostate cancer.

Funds go toward the purchase of innovative equipment for hospitals and the funding of Prostate Cancer specialist nurses. Read more.


Leaders say Europe’s waste recovery goal is achievable

The European plastics industry has set an ambitious target: total elimination of plastics waste going to landfills by 2020. PlasticsEurope, with the support of other representative bodies, declared the industry’s intent last year when it called for a Europe-wide landfill ban. Read more.


Klöckner Pentaplast breaks ground on new Chinese production facility

The Klöckner Pentaplast Group broke ground on its first manufacturing facility in China on 18 January 2012. Located 80 km west of Shanghai in the Suzhou Industrial Park in Suzhou, China, the new site will produce packaging films for the growing domestic Chinese market. The first phase of production capacity will focus on transverse-direction oriented shrink-label films, used primarily for full- or partial-body shrink-sleeve applications. Klöckner Pentaplast is the only producer of shrink-label films with global manufacturing in the Americas, Asia and Europe. Read more.


Wind blade composites market grows as offshore wind energy advances

Many nations have set challenging targets for renewable energy production, as was evident at the latest global conference on Wind Turbine Blade Manufacture in December 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The UK Minister for the Environment announced potential plans for another 29,000 wind turbines, mainly offshore, and Siemens Energy unveiled its latest 6MW turbine with rotor diameters of 120 and 154 metres. In the same month the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) announced that more than 1200MW were installed in the United States in the third quarter of 2011, which is more than any quarter since 2008: the U.S. wind energy market has been boosted by the federal Production Tax Credit. In January the Spanish wind turbine company Gamesa announced a new blade manufacturing plant in the emerging market of India. China is a leading nation in windpower and has two new wind farm projects; one near the Mongolian border that has just come online at 300MW and Longyuan Power, which connected 99.3MW in December on the coast in Jiangsu Province.
